Digital innovation for surgical instrumentation
MAS Elettronica
The context
MAS Elettronica collaborated with an Italian company, a leader in the production of advanced surgical instruments, to develop a next-generation user interface designed for hospital environments and used in cutaneous repair procedures.
The project fits into the broader digital transformation of the healthcare sector, where the integration of specialized hardware and intelligent software is redefining operational standards.

The client’s challenge
The company required an advanced and highly customizable user interface for its surgical systems, aiming to offer healthcare professionals an enhanced experience and extensive customization capabilities, while ensuring maximum reliability in critical medical environments.
Technological architecture
The implemented solution is based on a modular architecture combining the TANIA IMX6 carrier board with the LEILA IMX6 CPU module, an ARM dual-core processor at 800 MHz with a dedicated graphics accelerator.
The system integrates a Qt framework for professional graphical interfaces, an optimized Yocto Zeus operating system, and MQTT cloud connectivity for seamless interoperability.
Operational results
The system fully met the client’s needs by delivering:
- An intuitive and immersive user experience thanks to a fluid graphical interface with optimal response times during surgical procedures.
- Customization of the interface according to the individual preferences of each healthcare professional, increasing operational efficiency.
- Simultaneous dual-display management for real-time viewing of both patient data and instrument controls, improving intervention safety and overall workflow.
The time-to-market was reduced by 50% compared to industry standards, accelerating the product launch and significantly optimizing research and development investments.
